Deafening Media Silence

On July 31, the Mumbai High Court dropped MCOCA charges against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and others. This news seems to have stunned the media into an intriguing silence which is more deafening because of the fact that when Sadhvi Pragya was charged with MCOCA, the print and the electronic media raised a great hue and cry. The media pounced upon the story like a hungry pack of wolves. Secularists and human rights activists ventured very hard to create the illusion of what they coined as ‘Hindu Terrorism'. The same pious men and women had been gloating over, all along, the hard reality of Islamic terrorism in the world by trying to explain it away attributing its rise to various social, political and economic reasons.

But the self-professed secularists, liberals and human rights people turned deaf, dumb and blind to the sunshine of the reality of the MCOCA withdrawn against those who were framed into the plot. These self-righteous people owe an apology to the nation for having jumped to brand these individuals as culprits much before the investigation had been completed and any court of law had given its verdict. There was an unhealthy competition among them to raise the bogey of ‘Hindu terrorism'.

This reminds us of a pattern in Indian media. Everything anti-Hindu and pro-Islamic is highlighted and trumpeted as a pious act of secularism. That is why the media has only tried to ignore the reality of the orgy of violence and burning alive of innocent persons in Godhra which had triggered the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat. Their hypocrisy stood further exposed when they tried to explain away the Godhra carnage and condemned only the post-Godhra violence as a black spot. They easily gloat over the clandestine activities of Christian missionaries but shout full throated if there is reaction against their anti-Hindu activities.

The bias in print and electronic media needs to be exposed. The common masses can sieve the truth and see it for themselves.
