Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Friday said Mumbai attack terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab should not be provided any legal help and be hanged publicly near the Gateway of India.
"Why should Kasab be provided legal help? There is public demand that he should be hanged near Gateway of India and no time should be lost in trial," Thackeray said in an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamana.
Alleging that Kasab was being treated as a "guest", the Sena chief said, "Kasab's mother, who is coming to visit his son in prison, would now be given treatment as if she was a veermata (martyr's mother)".
He further said that Kasab's lawyers have not gauged the public fury and were "playing" with the country's prestige by being in the limelight through the case.
